Aim for concise, but meaningful examples
We're looking for short examples that clearly show how you've applied each skill in practice.
- Bullet points are ideal
- Keep it brief
- Focus on real, relevant experience
These notes help us confirm your skill level and support the following Skills Discussion session, and enable us to issue digital badges where applicable.
What should I include?
For each skill, include 1-3 examples that show:
- how you've applied the skill in a real work setting
- that you've used it more than once (not just a one-off)
- relatively recent experience (ideally within the last few years)
Your examples should give enough detail for someone else to understand what you've done, without needing long explanations.
What does a good example look like?
Good: (clear and concise)
- Managed Azure infrastructure for internal systems, including setup, monitoring, and ongoing support
- Built and maintained deployment pipelines using Jenkins across multiple environments
- Investigated and resolved production incidents on a daily basis, including escalation where required
Also good: (slightly more detail)
- For the past 2 years, managed incident resolution across several enterprise applications, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and escalation
Too vague: (not enough detail)
- 'Worked on infrastructure'
- 'Used DevOps tools'
Too detailed: (not needed)
- Long paragraphs explaining full projects, stakeholders, and outcomes
Simple structure (optional)
If helpful, use:
- what you did
- how you did it (optional)
- context or outcomes (optional)
Example:
- Investigated and resolved application incidents daily, troubleshooting issues and escalating where required
How closely does this need to match SFIA?
Your examples should broadly align with the skill description, but don't worry about matching every line exactly.
We're looking for clear evidence that you:
- understand the skill
- have applied it in practice
- have done so consistently
Important
These examples are an important part of the Self-Assessment. They help us confirm your skill level and support the process outcomes.
At the same time, they don't need to be polished or perfect. We're looking for clear and relevant.
What happens next?
In your follow up Skills Discussion session, we will:
- walk through your examples together
- clarify or expand where needed
- explore your experience in more detail
- confirm your skill levels
